Village businesses are being alerted to another spate of attempts to spend counterfeit Scottish £20 notes in Ruddington.
The warning’s gone out after “two lads” tried to make purchases today at village centre shops including The Co-Op, Sshokwave Bikes and Philo’s Espresso Bar & Eatery. This time around it’s relatively easy to spot they’re not genuine “Clydesdale Bank” notes (top) since there’s no metal strip embedded in them, the hologram is printed on the front and they’re blank at the back!
It’s the second time in as many months that criminals have tried to pass off fake Scottish £20 notes in Ruddington – with the another quite different design of Scottish twenty (below) “spent” at The Frame Breakers pub during the 2019 Christmas Market.
The scammers rely on having more chance of getting away with using these bogus notes in England because of people’s unfamiliarity with them. A third design of counterfeit Scottish £20 was seen in Ruddington in an earlier attempted scam on which RUDDINGTON.info reported back in December 2017.
Traders and shoppers are being warned to stay vigilant for the latest fake currency – and report any suspected offenders via 101.
Meantime, Rushcliffe Police have just released the latest recorded Ruddington Crime Statistics for the month of January 2020.
In date order the reported offences were:-
1st Overnight a set of extendable ladders were stolen from a garden on Brookside Gardens.
6th Drive-off for £73.77 from the petrol station on Loughborough Road.
8th Female shop lifter stole over £150 worth of stock and made off. Suspect identified and arrested.
11th Unknown suspect caused damage to a fence on Spencer Close.
12th Theft from store whereby a member of public gave chase and the stolen items were dropped.
12th A property on Easthorpe Street was broken into and two vehicles stolen – but both recovered in a short space of time in a neighbouring force area.
15th Number plates were stolen from a car parked on Fields Avenue.
15th Pushbikes were stolen from outside the Co-op whilst the owners were inside.
20th Overnight attempted break-in to a property on Musters Road – and also a van parked on the same road.
The total of ten crimes in our village is three less than the month before.
